SPOTLIGHT: ADRIENNE BAVAR OF SHOP PR

Name: Adrienne Bavar

Age: 30-something

Position/Company: Sr. Vice President of ShopPR

Where did you go to school? Syracuse University, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications

What was your major? Communications with a focus on Advertising

First internship (what were responsibilities)? Casting department of the ABC soap One Life to Live. I filed headshots and resumes, delivered scripts to the set and was always on the lookout for celebrity sightings.

First job? Media Planner for Xerox at Young & Rubicam

Did you move to NYC to pursue your career in PR? I moved to NYC to pursue a career in fashion. I left Y&R after a year to pursue an opportunity in Gucci’s PR department. From copiers to couture, I died and went to heaven … or so I thought.

Favorite part of your job? A new business win … and I love brainstorming creative ideas with the larger team.

Least favorite part of your job? Obsessing over things at 11pm at night. I’d probably do this regardless of my profession. It’s important to let things go and clear your head.

Favorite brands (brands you think are launching great PR campaigns)? I’m impressed with a lot of social media campaigns. I love what Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is doing and the new Jimmy Choo 24:7 Style Makers campaign.

Biggest accomplishment so far in your career? The opportunity to work with global brands and execute integrated marketing campaigns.

Biggest lesson learned to date in your career? Learn to be a good listener. I tend to get excited about great ideas and talk a lot but I’ve learned you need to listen to be a good communicator, negotiator and colleague. If you’re in a meeting and you have a thought, write it down.

Who were/are your mentors? My parents, Flori Roberts, Maureen Lippe and Vanessa Pesce.

Best work advice? Network, network, network! Relationships are key in PR. Join different clubs and organizations.

As a publicist, you can’t live without your team at ShopPR.

In order to succeed in PR, you… should be vivacious, creative and passionate!

If you weren’t a publicist, you’d be… a fashion or beauty editor.
